Chinese painting dates back to the New Stone Age about 6000 years age.The colored pottery with painted animals, fish,deer, and frogs excavated in the 1920s indicates that the Chinese had already started to use brushes to paint. Chinese traditional painting is highly ragarded throughout the world for its history,expression, and techniques. According to the menas of expression, Chinese painting can be divided into two categories: the xieyi school and gongbi school. The xieyi school aims at catching a likeness in spirit and expressing the artist's impression or mood, while the gongbi school is characterized by fine brushwork and close attention to details.
